About Droughan Costello

RMT

Since graduating from Sutherland Chan School with a specialty in sports massage, Dru (“Dru”) has been successfully practicing as a Registered Massage Therapist (“RMT”) in downtown Toronto for over 10 years. His primary focus has been on sports massage therapy, including rehabilitation and remedial exercises in a variety of settings. Dru works with many clients via Goodlife Gyms and Multidisciplinary Clinics, alongside Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths and Naturopaths. He utilizes dynamic and active release techniques, as well as traditional Swedish massage to help with pain relief, relaxation and mental focus.

Dru believes strongly in self-care for his RMT clients, and will prescribe exercises to be done outside of the clinic alongside RMT. Using stretching and breathing techniques for tight muscles, strengthening exercises using thera bands, weights, or body-weight (calisthenics) exercises to help with muscle imbalances, he finds clients with the highest recovery rate are highly involved in their own recovery. Hydrotherapy could also be employed using either hot, cold, or a combination of the two to prescribe and promote blood flow for chronic injuries as well as reduce inflammation for acute injuries.

After working at Goodlife as an RMT and seeing the benefits of strength training for his client’s, he became a Canfitpro certified personal trainer which he has been for the past five years. In the gym, he’s become educated on all the compound straight bar lifts such as the squat, dead-lift, shoulder press, bench press as well as Olympic weightlifting. He’s also in-tune to maximizing clients’ capabilities and making a newcomer feel comfortable in a gym environment, using kettle-bells, dumbbells, cable machines, thera bands and calisthenics.

Dru is a 3rd degree black belt in Shotokan karate and a member of the gold medal-winning sparring team of 1999. He has rekindled his love of tennis over the past 10 years and plays throughout the year. His personal hobbies over the last few years saw Dru becoming a proficient (albeit sporadic) knitter, completing hats, scarves and recently socks, among other various other related projects.
