Conditions Treated at DUHC’s Foot Clinic

DUHC addresses a wide range of foot and lower limb conditions:

Plantar Warts:

Plantar warts are a type of viral infection that affects the soles of the feet. They are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and typically appear as small, rough, and hardened growths with tiny black dots. Plantar warts can be painful, especially when walking or standing. At DUHC, we offer SWIFT therapy as a treatment option for Plantar wart removal.

Heel Pain:

Heel pain is a frequent complaint that can greatly affect mobility and daily activities. It is often caused by conditions such as Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, Achilles bursitis, or heel spurs. The pain is typically felt on the underside or back of the heel and can range from mild discomfort to severe pain. Chiropodists can properly diagnose and offer a treatment plan that caters to your needs.

Shin Splints (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome):

Medial tibial stress syndrome, commonly known as shin splints, is a condition characterized by pain along the inner edge of the shin bone (tibia). It is often caused by repetitive stress and overuse of the muscles, tendons, and bones in the lower leg, commonly seen in activities such as running, jumping, or dancing. Shin splints can be alleviated through proper footwear, custom orthotics, treatment and rest.

Bunions:

Bunions are a common foot condition characterized by a bony bump that forms at the base of the big toe. They usually develop when the big toe pushes against the adjacent toe, causing the joint to protrude outward. Bunions can be painful, cause discomfort while walking or wearing shoes, and may be accompanied by inflammation and swelling. Chiropodists can provide an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan including the use of custom foot orthotics.

Corns and Calluses:

Corns and calluses are thickened and hardened areas of skin that develop in response to friction or pressure. Corns typically form on the toes or the tops of the feet, while calluses are more commonly found on the soles. They are often caused by poor footwear, repetitive rubbing, or excessive pressure from activities like walking or running. Treatment options include proper footwear, custom orthotics, regular exfoliation, and professional removal.

Ingrown Toenails:

Ingrown toenails occur when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin, leading to pain, inflammation, and potential infection. Chiropodists can provide effective treatment options for ingrown toenails, ranging from conservative measures like proper nail trimming to more advanced procedures such as nail surgery, depending on the severity of the condition.

Fungal Nail Infections:

Fungal nails occur when fungi invade the nails, leading to discoloration, thickening, and brittleness. Chiropodists can provide various treatment options for fungal nails, including topical antifungal medications, and nail debridement to remove infected nail material, helping to improve the appearance and health of the affected nails.

Tendonitis:

Tendonitis is the inflammation of a tendon, often caused by repetitive overuse or strain. Physical therapy, custom orthotics for support and alignment, and other modalities to reduce pain and inflammation are some treatment options provided by chiropodists. Seeking chiropody care for tendonitis can help individuals regain function, alleviate pain, and prevent long-term complications.
